Sunita heads the leadership building and research and development program within
Breakthrough. She helps deliver community education and leadership development that bring human rights values directly into hearts, homes, and communities across India and beyond. She develops and implements national-level trainings on citizenship education, women’s rights, sexuality and HIV/ AIDS and has over 800 programmes to her credit, conducted by her to educate civil society groups, government departments, corporations and marginalized communities on social justice issues and effecting the necessary change. She has written several educational guides on HIV/AIDS awareness, sex-selective elimination, and healthy sexuality, and several nationally-published articles on development issues. She is the author of Jaano, Jaago, Jagaao – A Peer Educators Guide to HIV/AIDS Awareness, Life in the Edge- No Country for Young Girls (on sex selection) and co-authored Rights and Desire- A Facilitators Manual on Healthy Sexuality and Bell Bajao -Advocacy kit against domestic violence. Sunita has also scripted and hosted education programs for Gyan Darshan, a national television channel. She serves on the board of Pravah, a leading youth development organization, and is a founding member of Sangawari, which uses theatre and culture to address conflict-related issues. She is also an alumnus of International Volunteer Leadership Program run by the US State Department.
