At Breakthrough, Sohini thinks mainly about resources: where and how to secure the funding — and partnerships — to support and expand Breakthrough’s work. She also helps develop Breakthrough’s effective, efficient, and resource-smart program strategy. Sohini has spent more than twenty years in the public sector, working with Ashoka Innovators for the Public to raise awareness of social entrepreneurship across India and ramp up its operations in the country; co-founding the Sanhita Gender Resource Centre; and working with traditional craftspeople across India as program officer of Dastkar. Sohini also worked as the India Strategy consultant at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network for its crucial first three years of launch. Sohini is a trustee of Read India, and a board member of Dastkar, Jeevika Development Society, which uses access and control over financial resources as the key to achieving women’s empowerment, and of Kolkata Sanved, which uses dance movement for recover from trauma and violence. Sohini has a master’s in English literature, a passion for crime fiction, cooking, handicrafts and handlooms and travel.
